Armgard von Bardeleben

Armgard von Bardeleben, a resident of 320 Riversdie Drive since 1980, passed away on Sunday morning.
Armgard, a native of Germany, was a dancer and dance educator. She was a former member of the Martha Graham Dance Company and had performed with other modern dance companies in the United States, Europe and Brazil. She was on the faculty of the Martha Graham School from 1973 until 2010 and was Director of the school from 1980 to 1983.
From 1983 to 1998 she taught in the Dance Division of SUNY Purchase and from 1998 to 2005 was Professor of Modern Dance at the Musichochschule of Cologne, Germany. Earlier in her career, she was a Professor of Modern Dance at the Universidade Federal da Bahia in Salvador, Brazil.
Armgard is survived by her husband, Gilbert Tauber; her stepdaughter, Kate Tauber, of Gibsons, B.C., Canada; her step-grandchildren Sophy and Nikko; and, in Germany, by her sister Almuth Gernholt, brothers Hilmar and Fritz-Erwin von Bardeleben, and a large circle of nephews and nieces and their children.
Funeral arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers or wreaths, it is requested that donations in Armgard’s memory be made to Bloomingdale Aging in Place, P.O. Box 497, New York, NY 10025.
